The recent survey of 1000 US companies revealed that a staggering half of them have begun to depend on ChatGPT, OpenAI’s chatbot and AI technology.
Consequently, many organizations had to let go of some employees or reallocate them within their ranks. This drastic shift in reliance showcases the rapid development of AI technology and its effects on the job market.
A Growing Concern: ChatGPT Technology Disrupts US Companies
Since its grand unveiling in November 2022, ChatGPT from OpenAI has caused a stir among tech specialists and AI developers.
They warned that this cutting-edge chatbot could take away people’s jobs, but their warnings went largely ignored. However, it did not take long for ChatGPT to make its mark – it started replacing human labor before anyone could blink.
A recent survey conducted in the US has uncovered that half of the surveyed 1000 US firms have already adopted ChatGPT.
Unfortunately, this has had a major impact on these companies, as they were forced to downsize and either terminate or reshuffle certain roles. This comes as an unwelcome consequence of using ChatGPT technology.
ChatGPT Replacing Human Workers in American Firms
The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has caused a seismic shift in the job market, as machines and technology are increasingly taking away traditional roles.
A prime example of this is ChatGPT — a chatbot that recently earned an MBA, secured an entry-level coding position at Google, and even passed the US medical exam, allowing it to practice medicine!
As AI continues to advance, it’s becoming increasingly likely that businesses will begin utilizing these chatbots as part of their daily operations.
In a survey conducted by the career guidance platform Resumebuilder.com, it was revealed that numerous American firms have started to incorporate ChatGPT for various activities instead of human workers.
With 1,000 business owners participating in the poll, almost half of those based in the US reported using ChatGPT, which has resulted in the replacement of employees in their organizations.
In a press release, OpenAI lauded the achievements of their celebrated chatbot, noting that business executives have been highly appreciative of its performance.
Results from surveys show that a whopping 55% consider its contributions to be exemplary, with another 34% deeming it as excellent.
ChatGPT is Helping Automate and Streamline Manual Tasks
A renowned accounting firm utilized a modified version of ChatGPT to craft summaries based on their carefully-analyzed accounting records.
Traditionally, the task would be assigned to a rookie employee and then passed up the line for approval from a higher-up executive before reaching the client. By making use of this technology, however, they were able to save manpower.
A marketing agency recently employed an AI bot to craft a report that summarized the results of a psychological survey done on a focus group trying out a new service.
This task, which was typically assigned to an entry-level executive in the client servicing team, was now handled with ease by the automated tool.
A law firm employed ChatGPT to compose legal briefs and assist in researching related case studies, traditionally the responsibility of paralegals and newer associates.
The briefs were then assessed by junior partners prior to being presented to the senior partners for argumentation. Going forward, the firm will be testing if ChatGPT can augment its strategy when arguing cases.
How Automation May Lead to the Creation of New Careers and Opportunities
Stacie Haller, Senior Career Adviser of Resumebuilder.com, recently remarked that ChatGPT is causing a stir in the workplace as it’s gaining traction.
The study conducted by the firm revealed employers are looking to utilize this innovative technology to simplify certain tasks. With it being a relatively new development, personnel must reflect on its potential effect on their job roles.
It is important to understand that automation, such as AI bots like ChatGPT, will not completely eliminate human employment.
While certain jobs may become obsolete, the advancement of technology will create an abundance of new openings and occupations.
When India’s offices began to phase out typewriters in favor of computers, this posed a challenge to those whose trade relied on servicing them. But then, these technological advancements also presented opportunities for new career paths and professions.
Now, with the introduction of AI, existing jobs are becoming obsolete while new ones are emerging. It is hard to predict what these new opportunities may be, but it is sure to open up a world of possibilities.
