Meta says ChatGPT-related malware is on the rise

Social media giants have witnessed around 10 malware families and 1,000+ malicious links which were promoted as tools featuring the popular AI-powered ChatGPT. According to Facebook owner Meta, the rise in ChatGPT-related malware has taken place since March.

ChatGPT-related Malware is on Rise 

On Wednesday, Facebook owner Meta, it was stated that they have detected malware purveyors gripping public interest in OpenAI ChatGPT to lure users into installing malicious browser extensions, and apps, likening the phenomenon to cryptocurrency scams. 

It was stated in a report, Social media giants were able to discover about 10 malware families in addition to more than 1000 malicious links which were promoted as tools featuring the widespread chatbot powered by artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT.  

In particular cases, the company was able to identify malware being delivered working ChatGPT functionality to comply with abusive files. 

Guy Rosen, the meta chief information security officer, claimed that “ChatGPT is the new crypto” in a press briefing on the following report. 

Rosen and other Meta executives stated the company is working towards preparing its defenses for the possible abuses connected to generative AI technologies such as ChatGPT, which is capable of generating human-like content, art, and music effortlessly in no time. 

It will be great to see the kind of defenses which get prepared by the company for the abuses linked to Generated AI technologies. 

In order to make online disinformation campaigns easier to propagate, lawmakers have flagged such tools. 

Rosen and other Meta executives were asked whether generative AI has been utilized in information operations. To which the executives replied saying, right now It was still early. However, Guy Rosen stated that he expected the utilization of technologies by “bad actors” to “Accelerate or perhaps scale up” their actions. 

Various Tech veterans have also informed the media regarding the potential negative impact of generative AI and have requested others to be careful. Godfather of AI, Geoffrey Hinton has recently resigned from Google and has warned everyone by saying, the use of Artificial Intelligence can be extremely harmful.
