WHY TEACHERS ARE CONCERNED

Nowadays, most students utilize ChatGPT to complete their homework, this ends up killing students’ logical thinking and individual opinion.

Many experts and teachers also believe using an AI chatbot to write school papers, assignments, and homework is considered cheating and causing a threat to learning and education for students.

According to the deputy chief executive of the Australian Council of Educational Research deputy, Dr. Catherine McClellan, “Each development in education or learning technology, chalk, paper or every method of tech is a sort of death of learning.”

PLAGIARISM CONCERNS

Generating content using AI chatbots like ChatGPT, can lead to plagiarized content. Plagiarism is considered unethical in schools and universities as it’s a form of theft. Using ChatGPT to develop words and ideas and claiming it’s your own is unethical.

Even if the content generated by ChatGPT is not plagiarized it is still cheating considering the fact students are using Chatbot to create answers and essays for themselves rather than putting in their efforts.

Nowadays, universities and schools are using AI detectors to avoid the use of ChatGPT-generated content, which will help teachers determine the authenticity of the answers and essays submitted by students.

ADVANTAGES OF CHATGPT IN SCHOOLS

Most people consider ChatGPT as a downfall for students. However, there are ways students and teachers can use ChatGPT to gain benefits in learning. Here are the top advantages of ChatGPT in schools

Answering questions

ChatGPT’s biggest advantage is its capability to answer basic to complex questions within seconds. It’s common for students to have doubts and questions regarding several topics and subjects and finding answers can often be time-consuming.

ChatGPT can help solve these queries and generate in-depth answers to all the questions within a seconds. Helping students gain knowledge at a faster pace.

Help students prepare for the Examination

Another biggest advantage of ChatGPT is its ability to prepare students for exams. Students can use ChatGPT to develop practice questions, quizzes, MCQs and more helping students prepare better and test their knowledge.

This is a great way to prepare beforehand for an examination and raise the chances of obtaining better grades.

Solving doubts

Students often find themselves facing trouble with math problems or science experiments. ChatGPT can help develop proper explanations and solutions to all these troubles in no time.

This can help enhance students’ ability to learn better and more effortlessly with in-detail solutions whenever they want.

Understanding & Learning Guide

ChatGPT can test students’ learning styles and provide feedback to help improve their overall performance.

For example, students can use ChatGPT to check and grade their college essays, helping students understand how they can better their performance and increase their chances of getting accepted.

Is ChatGPT going to be banned?

Currently, there is no news on whether ChatGPT will be banned across all the schools or not. A few schools in New York and Seattle, Universities in France, and a few colleges in India have issued a ban on ChatGPT. However, the ban isn’t yet raised in all the colleges.

Is ChatGPT banned in the USA?

Yes, a few public schools in New York City and Seattle have banned ChatGPT. However, ChatGPT isn’t banned all over the USA but rather just in a few cities.

Why are Companies banning ChatGPT?

There are three major reasons why companies and organizations are banning ChatGPT, which are as follows:

Data Privacy

ChatGPT contains a wide range of data that can be amassed without permission. ChatGPT’s privacy policy raises major concerns for most companies and organizations which is causing a ban on this AI chatbot.

OpenAI collects information such as visitors’ IP addresses, browser types, features used, the interaction of visitors with websites, content engagement, and more.

OpenAI has stated it might share users’ data with an unspecified third person without informing the visitor to meet their business objective and improve their capabilities.

The lack of clarity of data sharing in its privacy policy creates a major concern for companies and organizations. Its privacy policy also states user data might also be published or made publicly available for third-party research.

This has caused major companies such as Amazon, Accenture, JPMorgan, and more to ban the use of ChatGPT for their employees considering risks for sensitive data.

Inaccurate data

Another major reason behind companies banning ChatGPT is due to its ability to generate incorrect data. Most users have found ChatGPT issuing inaccurate information with no context to the input, raising questions on the accuracy. Which causes companies to avoid the use of ChatGPT.

Plagiarized content

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot, it cannot understand the distinction between content and legal or restricted content. At times, ChatGPT has copied content from various other sources. ChatGPT tends to exclude attributes and citations to sources and IP used.

Where is ChatGPT banned?

ChatGPT has been banned in a few universities and schools in France, the United States (New York & Seattle), China, and India.

In recent months, Western Australian and Victorian public schools have also issued a ban on ChatGPT joining Queensland, New South Wales, and Tasmania banning students from using ChatGPT.

Don’t Ban ChatGPT in Schools. Teach With It.

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot with high capabilities which can threaten teachers and educators based on their concern for copy-pasted content. However, teachers can use this AI chatbot to help students learn better and gain major advantages.

Teaching is changing with technology and educators can use AI chatbots to prepare students more for a brighter future as ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that can help students learn better.

Teachers and educators should embrace ChatGPT’s capability to answer and generate easy solutions for students’ advantage. Students can utilize it to ask questions and clear all their doubts.

A Professor at the University of South Australia George Siemens has stated teachers should focus on how AI writing tools can be used for improving and enhancing education.

“AI chatbots like ChatGPT, are innovations” Siemens stated, “Instead of placing a ban on such AI writing tools, teachers and educators should find a way to use them to their advantage to explore and use it for a better sense of knowledge and learning for students.”

For example, if you ask ChatGPT to develop an algebra lesson for grade five, it will generate various sets of objectives, suitable activities, materials, and more for students.

In addition, ChatGPT can also help students with various subjects including creating and debugging code.

Therefore, teachers should consider using ChatGPT to assist students in learning better instead of just placing a ban on ChatGPT or any other AI chatbots.
