Elon Musk has created a new Artificial Intelligence company named X.AI, according to a state filing in Nevada which was incorporated last month. For days, there had been reports about Musk planning to launch an AI firm to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, for which Musk has begun gathering researchers and engineers to work on the AI project.

Elon Musk’s new AI company X.AI
Elon Musk has created a new Artificial Intelligence company known as X.AI. It was reported the incorporation of the company was indicated by a state filing in Nevada last month. Musk is the director of the company while Jared Birchall is the director of Musk’s family office, listed as a Secretary.

X.AI has permitted the sale of about 100 million shares for the company which was held privately. For days, there had been rumors about Musk starting an AI platform. There had been reports from Business Insider stating Musk has been involved in purchasing several GPUs (Graphic processing units) to power an upcoming generative AI product.
It was reported by the Financial Times; musk had been planning to launch an AI firm of its own to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT. It was also reported that Musk has even begun assembling researchers on his team for the new AI project.
Reportedly there had also been several discussions with Tesla and SpaceX investors regarding the funding to launch the company.
In an interview with Twitter Space, Musk was asked about GPUs purchased by him, to which there were no mentions of any plan regarding the development of a new AI company. He stated, “It seems everyone and their dog is purchasing GPUs at this point.”
The AI company name X.AI apparently matches the branding of X Corp, the name which was assigned to Twitter with the “X” label. Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion last year, he has aspired to build his vision called “X, the everything app”.
Musk has constantly opposed Microsoft-backed OpenAI and along with several AI researchers and experts had signed a letter to pause the development of AI which is more powerful than OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model. Stating it could pose a profound danger and risk to society and humanity.
OpenAI was co-founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman in 2015, although Musk stepped down from his position in 2018 addressing on Twitter, he wishes to focus more on Tesla and SpaceX.
Recently, OpenAI has gained massive recognition worldwide, thanks to its AI chatbot ChatGPT and latest language model GPT-4.
